I snagged this COMFEE microwave for a steal on a one-day sale, so for the price (around $84), I can’t complain. It heats food just fine, but keep in mind it’s only 700 watts. That means you’ll probably need to cook things a little longer than the directions say, which are usually based on 1200 watt microwaves. I don’t need to add tons of extra time, maybe just a minute to a 4-minute cook time. Just be aware that it takes up a bit more space than you might think. Make sure you check the manual for safety reasons – they recommend 4 feet of clearance on one side, but I have mine with 2 feet and it seems fine. You also can’t put things on top or too close to the back, which worked out okay for my counter.
One thing I found annoying is the timer. I’m used to pushing the number of seconds I want (like 150 for 1 minute and 50 seconds), but this microwave doesn’t work that way. If you hit a number, it starts counting down right away. So you have to press the timer button first, then enter the total time you want (like 150 or 430). It’s a small thing, but it took some getting used to.
Overall, this is a good basic microwave for the price. It heats food evenly and comes with a glass turntable. I recommend using microwave covers with it to trap the steam from your food. That steam can build up and damage the microwave over time, which is what happened to my last one! So these covers will catch the steam and make cleanup easier too. This microwave doesn’t have a bunch of fancy features, but it gets the job done well, especially if you’re on a budget. Read more…
